Did you think I was gone for good this time? Yep, it’s been even longer between drinks than usual. Partly because that’s just the way this website rolls – drifting between day and night, life and whatever happens after it, a leaf blowing in the wind.
But partly also because for most of the last few months I’ve felt like the world has been in some kind of giant cosmic tumble dryer and it seems that the super hot, super heavy drying cycle we’re in has no end in sight. I mean, really, WTF is going on? Everything from trade wars to ground wars and culture wars to freaky, dangerous weather events to breakdown of seemingly rock solid global institutions and warships circling our country. Belief in evidence, science and rationality – what happened to that in such a short period? And what are(n’t) we doing about the health of the planet? It’s like the worse that gets, the more damage we purposely try to inflict on it. How much more evidence do people need to realise that we have a problem we have to face and actually do something about it?
I guess all this is to say that writing hasn’t been a top priority lately for me. I’ve mostly been immersing myself in my work (my actual paid work), trying to keep my nose out of the mainstream media (though, man, does that pull you in sometimes) and trying to ride bikes as much as possible. There’s been some good journeys. A lot of fun has been had riding. A lot of trouble temporarily forgotten – left to decompose on the trail or the roadside (only to be replaced with more toxic mind sludge when the ride is over). Maybe sometime in the future I’ll write some of those rides up. Occasionally, I’ve been dropping a photo or two in the gallery on this site, though, so keep one eye on that in the meantime if you’re interested.
Well, that’s it for now. Ride safe and see you out there sometime.
